LASHKARGAH/JALALABAD (Pajhwok): At least 11 militants have been killed during an operation in southern Helmand, while an ammunition depot was found in eastern Nangarhar provinces, officials said on Monday.
Omar Zwak, Helmand governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News 11 militants were killed in ISAF airstrike in Shadano Kandaw area of Musa Kala district on Sunday night.
Rebels had plans to launch an attack on afghan security forces but came under airstrike before they could hit their intended target, he said.
Taliban Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed killing five Afghan security forces in various attacks in Grishk district of Helmand during the past two days.
Separately, a huge weapons and ammunition depot was discovered in Jalalabad city, the provincial capital of Nangarhar province.
A police commander, Brig. Gen. Fazl Ahmad Sherzad said the depot was discovered by police in Majbor Abad area of fourth police district.
“Tens of rockets, landmines, thousands of machinegun bullets and other weapons were recovered from the depot,” he said.
