KABUL’s history.

Karzai, who later attended new Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony in New Delhi, said this at a meeting with outgoing Premier Manmohan Singh.

Singh praised the president’s role in promoting national unity in Afghanistan over the past 13 years, saying Karzai would long be remembered for the achievements the war-torn nations had made since 2001.

A statement from the Presidential Palace said Singh lauded the courageous and timely response from Afghan security forces to Friday’s attack on the Indian consulate in Herat province.

Speaking to a private TV channel, Karzai said Afghanistan and India should work together with Pakistan to uproot terrorism in the larger interest of their common region.

He blamed the Pakistan-based militant group Lashkar-i-Taiba (LT) for the assault on the Indian consulate.  Citing information from a Western intelligence service, he alleged the attackers belonged to LT.
