KABUL) to brief lawmakers on preparations for the presidential vote.

Dr. Abdullah Abdullah and Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai are contesting the second round of the presidential ballot, scheduled for June 14.

Shukria Paikan, a lawmaker from Kunduz, said some IEC officials were allegedly involved in massive rigging in the April 5 elections. Cases of the officials involved in irregularities be referred to the judiciary, she suggested.

“The country will face a number of problems if its fate is decided by fraud,” Paikan warned, stressing transparency in the democratic exercise.

The IEC has announced creating an additional 3,600 polling sites in the second round of elections, bringing the total number to 23,313 polling stations.

Mohammad Sarwar Osmani, a parliamentarian from Farah, urged the commission to inform people about the new polling stations.

Speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi said IEC officials would be summoned soon to brief lawmakers on preparations and challenges ahead of the second round of the polls.
