KUNDUZ/ZARANJ (Pajhwok): A dozen rebels and two civilians have been killed during separate incidents of violence in Kunduz and Nimroz provinces since Friday, officials said on Saturday.

Another five militants and a policeman were killed in separate incidents elsewhere in eastern Nangarhar province.

Kunduz police spokesman Syed Sarwar Hussaini told Pajhwok Afghan News four militants were killed and five others wounded in different security operations in the province.

A Taliban commander, Qari Khanjar, was also among the dead, he said, adding another seven militants were detained during the offensive.

Hussaini said two civilians were also killed and many Afghan Local Police (ALP) members were wounded during the firefight.

Maj. Ghulam Hazrat Karimi, spokesman of the 209th Shahin Military Corps, said five militants were killed during an overnight operation in Haji Naeem area on Friday night. Afghan forces suffered no casualties in the operation, he added.

Karimi said at least 13 militants have been killed and 18 others sustained injuries during a series of operations in Naeem area during the past few days.

Elsewhere, three militants were killed during a clash with Afghan forces in Nimroz province.

The Governor’s Spokesman Ahmad Arab said rebels were killed during an overnight operation in Delaram district of the province. Weapons and some ammunition had also been seized from the militants.

Taliban Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed clashes in Dasht-I-Archi district of Kunduz, but provided no details.

According to another report, 10 militants and three policemen suffered casualties during different clashes in Nangarhar province.

Four rebels were killed and three others wounded when a group of militants stormed a police post in Kandi Bagh area of Chaparhar district early Saturday morning, provincial police spokesman, Hazrat Hussain Mashraqiwal said.

One ALP member was also killed during the gun battle. Some weapons and explosives were recovered from the rebels, he said, adding civilians suffered no casualties during the clash.

In another incident in Nangarhar, a militant was killed and two others wounded during an airstrike in Chahardehi area of Bati Kot district Friday night, district chief, Haji Ghalib said.
