PUL-I-KHUMRY (Pajhwok): Residents of three districts faced with great trouble after a bridge was damaged due to flash floods in the Deh Sala district of northern Baghlan province, officials said on Sunday.

Residents of Deh Sala, Pul-i-Hesar and Khost districts were cut off from the provincial capital when a bridge —the vital link among the three districts— was destroyed by floods two days ago. The bridge has 10 metres length and 5 metres width.

Mohammad Nasim, a shopkeeper, told Pajhwok Afghan News people had to pass mountainous areas by walking and pay 260 afghanis to a private vehicle to reach Pul-i-Khumri City.

He said there was no alternative for transportation of food items to the town, and the bridge collapse would soar prices of commodities.

Another resident, Zabihullah said: “Government should help me. I have no other means because my fruit garden has been washed away by floods.”

The administrative head of Deh Sala, Abdul Khalil Rahimi, said provincial authorities pledged to resolve the problem without further delay.

Deputy Governor Abdul Qadim Niazi said a team of provincial authorities would soon visit the site to resolve problems being faced by the people.
