KABUL (Pajhwok): The Independent Electoral Complaint Commission (IECC) on Sunday reviewed 345 complaints of Provincial Council (PC) candidates from northeastern zone during a public hearing, but protesting candidates urged the body to recount the votes, an official said.

Public hearings regarding complaints of provincial council candidates was launched by the IECC in presence of representatives of political parties, civil society organizations and media outlets on Saturday in Kabul.

In today’s session, complaints from Baghlan, Badakhshan, Takhar and Kunduz provinces were reviewed, while many runners complained about disappearance of their votes.

Adila Amini, a contender for Baghlan provincial council, said her votes had been disappeared in many voting centres. She complained her ballot had been reduced from 3,221 to 1,245 votes.

Sayer Saba, a protesting candidate from Badakhshan province, said she obtained thousands of ballots in Urgo and other districts, but the result was totally unexpected. She urged the complaint commission to recount the ballots.

But IECC director, Abdul Satar Sadat, said objections of the protesting candidates were already reviewed, but they were reassessing the complaints in their presence.

He said the commission would take decision as per documents and to view if there was need for recounting ballots of some polling centres.
