KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Three children died and two others sustained injuries as a result of flash floods that swept through the capital of southeastern Khost province following heavy rains, an official said.
The governor’s spokesman, Mubariz Zadran, told Pajhwok Afghan News the floods emerged on Tuesday night in Khost City, destroying more than 60 houses.
He said the flooding damaged crops in Ismail Khail and Mohmand areas, saying the three children were killed after the roof their house caved in. He feared the death toll may rise.
The Provincial Natural Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) confirmed the casualties and the number of homes destroyed.
Father of the three children, Mohammad Hakim, said the roof collapsed when the floodwaters submerged his house, leaving his three children dead.
In a statement, the Governor’s House urged aid organisations to assist the affected families.
