JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The campaign managers of presidential hopeful Dr. Abdullah Abdullah in the Dara-i-Noor district of eastern Nangarhar province threatened and intimidated officials of the Independent Election Commission (IEC), an IEC official said on Wednesday.
IEC Director Khwaja Mohammad Amin Fazli told Pajhwok Afghan News provincial authorities had already been informed that the IEC employees were being intimidated by Abdullah’s team managers.
Lal Pacha Azmoon, Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai’s cultural advisor alleged Abdullah’s campaign managers building pressure on the IEC newly elected employees to favor Abdullah.
He said the supporters of Abdullah were resorting to arms to gain favor and support of locals. He warned conducting of election in many polling stations in Dar-i-Noor district was impossible due to influence by some individuals.
But Dr. Mohammad Asif Qazi, Abdullah’s campaign manager in Nangarhar rejected the allegations, saying that his men never interfered in the work of the IEC.
