KABUL (Pajhwok): Presidential contender Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai has asked his rival Dr. Abdullah Abdullah to accept election results as a verdict of the nation.
After casting his vote, Ahmadzai told reporters he expected a landslide in the runoff. He would accept the outcome but at the same time he expected Abdullah to respect the nation’s choice.
“Based on the constitution, a transparent election is mandatory and we always obey the law. I want Dr. Abdullah to accept the results of today’s ballot,” he added.
The former World Bank economist said: “We represent the nation and go by people’s choice. God willing, people will endorse us today. Our commitment is that we will serve the nation.”
Ahmadzai asked people to participate in the election in the interest of the country’s bright future. Ballots, not bullets, would set the future direction of the country, he concluded.
