KABUL (Pajhwok): The National Security Council (NSC) on Sunday praised the Afghan National Army, police and the intelligence service for maintaining close coordination during yesterday’s presidential runoff election, calling it a key step forward in professionalism.
Chaired by President Hamid Karzai at the Presidential Palace, the NSC meeting was told by security officials that a number of militant attacks were foiled on the election day due to people’s cooperation with security forces.
The meeting also praised people’s cooperation with security forces and media’s positive role during the electoral process, a statement issued from the Presidential Palace said.
It said the meeting strongly condemned rocket attacks from Pakistan into eastern provinces on the election day. It said the Pakistani forces had acted in violation of agreement between Kabul and Islamabad on cooperation during the Afghan elections.
At the meeting, Defence Minister Bismillah Khan Mohammadi presented a report about the purchase of three EN140 aircrafts from Ukraine.
Mohammadi told the meeting that recent political changes and crisis in Ukraine could jeopardise the agreement reached with a Ukrainian company responsible for purchasing and shifting the aircrafts.
Therefore, he said the defence ministry was in contact with other companies and a complete report in this regard would be presented to the NSC in the next meeting.
