SHARAN (Pajhwok): Fleeing an ongoing military offensive in the North Waziristan Agency (NWA), dozens of families have sought refuge in the Orgun district of southeastern Paktika province, an official said on Saturday.

The district’s administrative chief, Mohammad Raza Kharotai, said provincial and central authorities had been informed about the situation. The refugees were in dire need of shelter, food and water, he added.

Without giving the exact number of refugees, he told Pajhwok Afghan News that a delegation from the centre would visit the province soon to explore ways of helping the displaced persons.

Mohammad Rassoul, one of the refugees, said: “It was the military operation that made us leave our homes and fled to Paktika.” He thanked the residents of the district for helping them at the critical time.

Earlier, many Pakistani families fled to southeastern Khost province as well, where authorities and locals extended support to them.
