Construction of highway begins in Wardak

MAIDAN SHAHR (Pajhwok): Construction work on a 24 kilometres portion of the Kabulinfo-icon-Kandahar highway was inaugurated in central Maidan Wardak province on Tuesday, an official said.

Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the project cost was 13 million afghanis, to be paid by the Worldinfo-icon Bank and local public representatives.

Governor Abdul Majeed Khogyani, a World Bank representative and public works ministry officials participated in the inauguration ceremony. Khogyani thanked the World Bank for funding the project.

He said the project contract had been awarded to three construction companies and the road would take three months to complete.

Public Works Director Mohammad Younus Najafizada said the project included asphalting the road, retaining walls and some other small constructions.

Najafizada added that 60 bridges destroyed during security incidents on the highway would be reconstructed.
