Kidnapping cases on the rise in Kunduz: Locals

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Commuters and drivers complained of growing incidents of robbery, kidnapping and attacks by militants on northern highway in Dasht-e-Archi district of northern Kunduz province.

Some passengers told Pajhwok Afghan News the highway in Dasht-e-Archi area was totally turned into a hub of criminal activities where passengers avoided traveling on the road.

Wishing anonymity, a deriver said dozens of kidnappings and robbery cases were taking place almost on daily basis. Militants and robbers even deprived women of their jewelries.

Zia-ul-Haq, a resident of Dasht-e-Archi, said the situation in the district had turned into worst and looting bids taking place in broad-day light.

Police Spokesman Syed Sarwar Hussaini acknowledged law and order on the outskirts of Dasht-e-Archi had been deteriorated, saying that strategy had been worked out to control the situation and protect the highway.

He said police had detained two persons allegedly involved in looting and plundering cases on the highway.
