Khost customs revenue to increase: Zakhilwal

KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Finance Minister Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal on Thursday inaugurated a newly constructed building for the customs office in southeastern Khost province and hoped the facility would help increase income and streamline customs affairs.

Zakhiwal, who inaugurated the newly-constructed building in the Badam Bagh area west of Khost City, said the new building would enable traders to pay customs duty in an organized way that would eventually result into increased government’s revenue.

The minister said the Khost-Ghulam road would soon become a transit trade route which would turn Khost province into a key regional trade centre.

Khost Governor Abdul Jabbar Naeemi said the new building cost $6 million provided by the World and goods storage facilities.

Trader representative Karamat Khan Khpalwak told Pajhwok Afghan News the government should intensify efforts at initiating transit trade through the Khost-Ghulam road.

He welcomed construction of the new building for customs office, saying it would facilitate traders and improve customs affairs.

The existing customs office in the Mata Cheena area has small administrative rooms and lacks sufficient space for parking vehicles.
