Tehran’s bid to build road in Nimroz foiled

ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Officials on Thursday claimed foiling Iran’s efforts to construct a road in the border district of Kang in northwestern Nimroz province.

Kang district chief, Mohammad Juma Ilmi, told Pajhwok Afghan News Iran had started constructing the road in Kanal Sikh area.

He said some farmlands in Haji Abdul Raza and Mohammad Ayub areas would have been damaged if the project had been implemented.

“This was an illegal action on Iran’s part and we have prevented it,” he claimed. Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoF) officials and tribal elders travelled to Nimroz and Iran for seeing border demarcations.

Governor Amir Mohammad Akhunzada said Afghanistan and Iran had a long-running border dispute. The delegation would ascertain the areas belonging to Iran and Afghanistan.

He said delegation had started working on the issue and the result would be known after the investigation was completed. Nimroz shares a 230 kilometres border with Iran. The border has a three metres high wall with barbed wire and security cameras.
