LASHKARGAH/ PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen shot dead prosecutor of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) in Lashkargah, the provincial capital of southern Helmand, an official said Tuesday.
Col. Farid Ahmad Ubaid, police spokesperson, told Pajhwok Afghan News that prosecutor Mustafa was on his way home from mosque in the evening when gunmen opened fire on him, leaving him dead on the spot.
Mustafa belonged to Naway district of the province. Police, he said had started raids to nab the killers. No group so far claimed credit for his killing.
Separately, unidentified armed men gunned down a tribal elder in Mohammad Agha district of central Logar province early Tuesday morning. The elder was on his way to perform morning prayers.
One hour later, four policemen died and two others wounded when they rushed to the area where the tribal chief was killed. A bomb ripped through the police vehicle which caused casualties.
Col. Abdul Wakil Haqyar, Mohamad Agha district police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News that a police team had been formed to investigate the murder of the tribal elder.
