Afghanistan to get 300MW of electricity

KABUL will consume 300MW of electricity under a hydel energy agreement that was signed in Istanbul this week, a report said on Friday.

Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan inked the accord for the Central-Asia South Asia Electricity Transmission and Trade Project (CASA-1000).

The project is expected to be completed by 2018 under the umbrella of the World Bank. According to the Express Tribune report, Tajikistan’s share in the energy export will be 70%, while Kyrgyzstan will export 30%. Pakistan will receive 1,000MW of electricity.

The project is designed to boost energy trade in the region and lead to sustainable development. The price is said to be 9.35 cents including all charges.

At the signing ceremony, ministers from Afghanistan, Pakistani, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan led their respective delegations. The Inter-Governmental Council of CASA-1000 met in September 2013.
