KABUL (EUPOL) has been extended for a year, the EU said on Thursday. A budget of €58 million was also approved for the mission.
The Council of the European Union took the decision on Wednesday, saying the mission would continue to engage in institutional reform of the Ministry of Interior, professionalisation of the Afghan police and development of justice-police linkages.
Police Commissioner Karl Åke Roghe from Sweden, who has been the head of mission since August 2012, said: “I am delighted that EUPOL can continue its work and move onto a new chapter, supporting sustainable transition and delivering specific expertise to our Afghan colleagues.”
