KHOST CITY /KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Businessmen in southeastern Khost province collected one million afghanis donation for victims of natural disasters across the country, while similar campaign was underway in southern Kandahar province, officials said on Monday.
People of Khost share the tragic moment of Panjsher families and other provinces hit by natural calamity, Governor Abdul Jabbar Naeemi said during a prayer ceremony held for those died in avalanche and flash floods.
He said the residents of his province would contribute more to help their brothers and sisters in the calamity-hit areas of the country. Recent avalanches and floods left more than 300 persons dead and 134 wounded with thousands other homeless.
Separately, condolences were held in Kandahar and people took to the street to collect donations for flood affected people. Ghausuddin Frotan, head of Hindar Cultural Centre, said they have launched a donation collection campaign since last three days.
He said that cash and other stuff that would be collected in the campaign would soon be dispatched to calamity-hit areas.
