FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): A militant leader, who recently joined the peace process in northeastern Badakhshan province, claimed on Monday that foreign spy agencies were igniting violence in Afghanistan.

Addressing a gathering in the provincial capital, Maulvi.

The ex-insurgent said he would strive to convince other armed rebels that the ongoing fighting in Afghanistan was a conspiracy. He also promised support for the government’s peace efforts.

Governor Shah Waliullah Adib said war was in no one’s interest. Killing a Muslim would land the militants in hell, he added, urging religious clerics to guide the public on to the road to peace.

An estimated 300 former rebels have joined the peace process in Badakhshan since the launch of the initiative four years ago, the gathering was informed.
