LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Thirteen insurgents have been killed and six others wounded during an operation in southern Helmand province, the 215th Maiwand Military Corps said on Sunday.
The Corps spokesman of Lt. Col. Mohammad Rasool Zazai told Pajhwok Afghan News security forces conducted the counterinsurgency offensive in the Shakr Shila locality of Sangin district on Saturday night.
He claimed Afghan forces remained unhurt during the operation. Two dreaded militant commanders, who led anti-state activities, were among the dead, the military spokesman added.
Haji Nasim, the social council head of Shakr Shila area, confirmed intense fighting took place in the locality but he had no information about casualties. The area, he said, was under the control of security forces.
But Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi did not speak on the Sangin fight. He said six Afghan security forces were killed and five others wounded in a mine blast in the district.
