GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Three projects, casting 142 million afghanis, have been completed and the foundation stones of another three schemes laid on the university campus in southeastern Paktia province, the chancellor said on Wednesday.
Dr. Sher Mohammad Rawan told Pajhwok Afghan News funds for the projects had been provided by ministries of counternarcotics and higher education to the provincial administration from their development budgets in reward for anti-poppy efforts in Paktia.
He said the projects executed included buildings for the university’s economics and agriculture faculties and a boys hostel.
Work on buildings for the engineering faculty, a mosque, the chancellor said.
Mohammad Ibrahim Ghakhtalai, a Wolesi Jirga member from Paktia, told Pajhwok Afghan News that he had monitored the projects during their implementation. He hoped the schemes would resolve to some extend problems facing the university students.
However, he said the university still lacked many facilities, which should be made available.
Established about a decade ago, about 3500 students have been studying at the university’s seven faculties.
Though many considerable development projects have been completed on the campus, yet it lacks hostels, laboratories, libraries and experiment tools.
