GARDEZ (Pajhwok): A vehicle carrying thousands of kilograms of ammonium chloride was captured and its driver arrested in southeastern Paktia province, the spy service said on Thursday.

The National Directorate of Security (NDSinfo-icon) said in a statement the vehicle carried 15,000 kilograms of ammonium chloride, which had been dispatched by the Haqqani networkinfo-icon to Paktia.

The substance is used in making homemade bombs, said the statement, which provided no details about the time and location of the seizure. However, it said the detained driver was being questioned.

Meanwhile, police chief, Brig. Gen. Zalmai Oryakhel, said they had arrested a fighter who persuaded youth to join Talibaninfo-icon’s ranks.

He said the detainee was goading a 16-year-old boy into joining the group of Qari Ikram, a Taliban commander in Zurmat district.
