2 arrested with 172 kg of opium in Helmand raid

LASHKARGAH (PAJHWOK): Two smugglers have been detained in southern Helmand province, the worldinfo-icon’s largest producer of opium, an official said on Thursday.

Border police head Brig. Gen. Hamidullah Seddiqi told Pajhwok Afghan News the men were arrested with 172 kilograms of opium during a raid in the Baqat area of Khanshin district.

He added border police had launched a campaign against narcotics in southern districts of the province, making drug smugglers to Pakistaninfo-icon difficult. Drugs are brought from northern provinces to Helmand for smuggling to Pakistan and Iran.
