KABUL (Pajhwok): Two American soldiers were killed when a bomb tore through their convoy in the capital Kabul on Monday, sources said.
The blast took place in the limits of the ninth police district in Qabalbai area near the Customs Department at around 8:30am.
Humayun Aini, police helpline director, told Pajhwok Afghan News it was a magnetic bomb that injured two foreign nationals, including one civilian. The bomb attached to a bicycle went off as the convoy of foreign troops passed by it, he said.
Kabul police spokesman Hashmatullah Stanikzai said the explosion possibly resulted from a bomb planted in the area.
No group has so far commented on the incident.
The ISAF international military coalition in Kabul gave no details of the attack but said in a statement two of its service members were killed in the area on Monday.
A Western security source told a foreign news agency that the victims were American. Another source said at least three civilians were also killed.
“We can confirm that two International Security Assistance Force service members died as a result of an enemy attack in eastern Afghanistan today,” the ISAF statement said.
