PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): One robber was killed and six others were detained during a clash with police in northern Baghlan province, an official said on Monday.
Police spokesman Javid Basharat told Pajhwok Afghan News the clash took place Sunday night in Bala Dori area on the Pul-i-Khumri-Kunduz highway, leaving one robber dead and six others detained.
Three policemen in plainclothes were among the robbers, he said, adding that four Kalashnikovs, a pistol and a car had been seized from the detainees.
The robbers had allegedly been looting people on the highway and hijacked many oil tankers last month. The vehicles were abandoned after oil was sold, Basharat added.
A resident of Bala Dori, Juma Khan, said some thieves snatched his car and 20,000 afghanis last month. The car was later recovered in Kunduz City.
