KABUL on Wednesday torched more than 30 tonnes of expired and substandard drugs in Kabul.

Deputy Minister Dr. Abdul Basir Sarwar told a news conference in Kabul that the spurious drugs had been seized in raids on pharmacies in the capital over the past six months.

Most of the drugs including antibiotics, vitamins, etc. had been manufactured by Iranian and Pakistani companies, the official said.

The drugs were set alight in Khak-i-Jabbar district in the presence of representatives from the Ministry of Interior and the Attorney General Office.

Dr. Sarwar added such drugs were smuggled into the country, where 20 tonnes of expired and poor-quality medicine had been seized and burnt in different provinces this year.
