FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Militants have cut off five districts from Faizabad, the capital of northeastern Badakhshan province, by damaging a key road, an official said on Tuesday.
Dawlat Muhammad Khawar, the Warduj district’s administrative chief, informed the insurgents were striving to blow up a vital bridge on Warduj River after damaging the main road.
Speaking to Pajhwok Afghan News, Khawar said the rebels harmed the road on Monday night, closing it for traffic and thereby causing residents severe problems.
He warned if the insurgents blew up the bridge, Zebak, Ahkasham, Wakhan and Warduj districts would be disconnected from the provincial capital.
Haji Syed Amanuddin, a tribal elder, confirmed damage to the road and warned they could bomb the main bridge anytime. He asked security forces to take immediate notice of the situation and avert the looming damage to the bridge.
