MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Police detained three suspects accused of raping and beheading a five-year-old boy in northern Faryab province, an official said on Wednesday.
Faryab police chief Col. Mohammad Naeem Andarabi told Pajhwok Afghan News the particularly aggravated homicide took place in Dali Khana locality of Qurghan district.
He said the boy’s body was found last night and three suspects had been arrested in connection with the murder, which could be a result of a personal enmity.
Andkhoy district head Sultan Sanjar said the family of the victim reported his disappearance on Tuesday afternoon. “After raping him, they dismembered the body.”
The Regional Human Rights Commission office condemned the incident in strongest possible terms and urged the government to punish the perpetrators.
“This is the most hideous crime I have heard of. This is not a crime only but a sheer violation of children’s rights,” said Hafizullah Fitrat, the rights commission’s head.
Fitrat said rape cases increased by a 20 percent in the province this year, but did not go into specifics.
