KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Six insurgents laced with guns and suicide vests were shot dead during a battle with police guarding the home of the provincial police chief in the Spin Boldak town of southern Kandahar province, officials said.
The militants tried to enter the house of Kandahar police chief Gen. Abdul Raziq and others security officials at around 8:00am, the governor’s acting spokesman Dawa Khan Minapal told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Police spokesman Zia Durrani said the six attackers were killed after an hour of the attack, some exploded their suicide vests and others were shot dead.
Houses of Raziq and a high-ranking border police official were located in the area, where the fighting was still ongoing, a security official said on condition of anonymity.
The area has been cordoned off and police reinforcements have reached the clash site.
The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack, with the group’s spokesman Qari Yousef Ahmadi saying the fighters attacked the home and the guest house of Gen. Raziq and others security officials.
He said the attack left several security personnel dead and wounded
