KANDAHAR CITY (PAJHWOK): Three members of an uprising group and four Taliban fighters were killed during an overnight clash in the Maiwand district of southern Kandahar province, an official said on Thursday.
The clash in the Qala Khamir area broke out late on Wednesday night when the insurgents attacked homes of the pro-government tribesmen, the district chief said.
Jan Agha told Pajhwok Afghan News another three uprising members, a local policeman and seven attackers were injured during the firefight.
The militants took away their injured colleagues and left behind the dead, the official said, adding security forces had reached the area to reinforce the anti-Taliban militia.
An upraising member, Jan Muhammad, told Pajhwok Afghan News they were patrolling in their area when insurgents attacked their homes. He asked the government to provide them with weapons and ammunitions and don’t let them alone in the fight against insurgents.
The Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.
