KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Agriculture Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) have built 74 small greenhouses for women in three eastern provinces to grow vegetables in winter, an official said on Tuesday.
Established under the ministry’s National Horticulture and Livestock Project (NHLP), the greenhouses enabled women in Nangarhar, Laghman and Kunar to cultivate vegetables, procure seeds and eke out a livelihood, Khadim Hussain Hamdam, the project manager in the eastern zone, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said each greenhouse was 12 meters long and three meters wide. Each structure required 15 meters plastic and 250 meters wire to be covered. Each cost 5,000 afghanis, he added.
He said 48 greenhouses were built in Behsud district of Nangarhar, lower Kunar and Dara-i-Noor districts, 10 in Mehtarlam, Laghman’s capital and Qarghai district and 16 in Asadabad, the capital of Kunar and Narang districts.
