9 dead, dozens wounded in Takhar bombing

TALOQAN (Pajhwok): At least nine civilians were killed and 24 others wounded in a bomb blast in the Khwaja Ghar district of northern Takhar province on Thursday, an official said.

The incident occurred at around 11:00 am in the main bazaar of district headquarters, the governor’s spokesman, Sunatullah Taimur, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The target was a convoy of the Afghan Local Police (ALP) but the explosives attached to a motorbike went off prematurely, causeing the civilian causalities.

He said womeninfo-icon and children were among the injured, seven of whom are stated to be in critical condition.

Dr. Hafizullah Sapi, the public healthinfo-icon director, confirmed receiving nine dead bodies and 24 others with multiple injuries. Women and children were among the victims, he added.
