9 heroin-making labs destroyed in Sherzad raid

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A joint Afghan-NATOinfo-icon force destroyed nine heroin-producing factories during an overnight operation in the Sherzad district of eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Tuesday.

Nangarhar police spokesman Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal told Pajhwok Afghan News a huge quantity of drugs were destroyed during the raid involving personnel from the Afghan counternarcotics special force, Afghan National Army’s commando unit and ISAFinfo-icon.

The drugs destroyed included 100 jerry canes of morphine, 1000 kg of ammonium chlorite and 800 gallons of acid all used in processing heroin.

Mashriqiwal also said a NATO drone strike a day earlier killed two Pakistani militants associated with Maulana Fazlullah’s Tehreek-i-Talibaninfo-icon Pakistaninfo-icon’s faction in the Nazyan district.

However, the Afghan Taliban claimed the strike caused casualties to civilians. The ISAF media office in Kabulinfo-icon is yet to comment.
