KABUL (Pajhwok): Presidential candidates Dr. Abdullah Abdullah and Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai are scheduled to meet on Tuesday to discuss a number of issues, including the formation of a unity government, their campaign managers said.

The meeting is expected to take place at around 11:00 am at the residence of Ahmadzai. Fazal Rahman Orya, Abdullah’s campaign manager, told Pajhwok Afghan News both candidates had agreed to form a unity government during a meeting with the US foreign secretary and the UN representative.

In today’s meeting, both sides would discuss in detail formation of the unity government and several other thorny issues, he added. Orya refused to share further details, but he had recently indicated an agreement on creation of the chief executive post, which would be offered to the losing candidate.

The chief executive post would be later changed to the prime minister’s slot after an amendment in the constitution, he added.

Meanwhile, the Change and Continuity team led by Ahmadzai said an agreement on creating the top position and its recipient was yet to be created the chief.

Nouman Shinwari, a spokesman for the Ahmadzai camp, said the meeting would be the first direct contact between the candidates to discuss electoral issues.

According to the agreement, all eight million votes would be audited in front of national and international observers, including the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).

Earlier, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) said the transfer of all ballot boxes from provinces to the capital Kabul had started and the process would take three weeks to complete.
