KABUL (Pajhwok): Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah on Tuesday acknowledged the nation was concerned about the delay in cabinet formation and pledged breaking the stalemate soon.

Abdullah met with provincial council members from more than 10 provinces coming to Kabul and discussed with them issues of national interest.

Taiba Khawary, the Bamyan provincial council head, raised concerns about people’s disappointment and said they wanted swift action on issues pertaining to national interest.

Khawary, the only female who heads a provincial council, said acting officials refrained from discharging their responsibilities.

Abdullah said people had the right to voice their frustration about the delay in cabinet formation, but said the issue would be settled down soon. “These days, I and the president have been in continuous discussions to finalise suitable candidates.”

He assured the new cabinet would be professional and honest in their service to the people.

“I know the presence of caretakers has created troubles and our promise is that we will soon have a new council of ministers,” he reiterated.

The unity government has completed 100 days in office without a cabinet in place.

Last week, President Ashraf Ghani promised for a third time to name his council of ministers in a week’s time—a pledge that could not be met.

Provincial council members also shared challenges they faced in their respective provinces, including insecurity, lack of budget and administrative buildings.
