Afghan cricket coach Kabir Khan resigns

KABUL’s national cricket team coach, citing personal engagements.

Khan, who has been coaching the Afghan team over the past few years, tendered his resignation at the Kabul International Stadium, where Afghanistan Cricket Board president Shahzada Massoud and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Noor Mohammad Murad were present.

Khan said he could not continue his job due some personal engagements. “I had decided a year back to resign but due to some important international events, I postponed my decision,” he said.

Kabir Khan praised the Afghan team for great achievements in a short span of time, saying the squad had been able to recognise its worth and find a place in the cricket world.

He said he would be ready to rejoin the Afghan team in future if his services were required.

Speaking on the occasion, Massoud said Kabir Khan had been coaching the national team for the last four and a half years.

He said Kabir Khan’s joining of the team enabled the players to make it to international events. He said they would try to find a replacement for Kabir Khan soon.

ACB CEO Dr. Murad also praised Kabir Khan’s services and contribution, saying they were trying to find a new coach for the team at the earliest.

He revealed former English coach Andy Moles had talked to Australia’s Peter Anderson about his appointment as the new Afghan batting coach.

At the end, the Afghan cricket board handed over an appreciation letter to the former coach, Kabir Khan, in recognition of his services for the Afghan team.
