KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Afghanistaninfo-icon national side on Sunday defeated a domestic cricket club, New South Wales, in a one-day practice match in Australia, an official said.

The hosts chose to bat after winning the toss in the 50-over game played at the Monaco Stadium in Canberra, the Afghanistan Cricket Board spokesman said.

Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News that New South Wales scored 232 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the stipulated overs, setting the tourists 233 runs target.

For Afghanistan, Yamin Ahmadzai clinched four wickets, Mohammad Nabi Issakhel three and Gulbadin and Samiullah Shinwari shared one wicket each.

Hotak said the national side achieved the target in the last over, with five wickets in hands, as Osman Ghani contributed an unbeaten 61.

Najib Zadran fell four runs short of his 50 while Samiullah Shinwari scored 32 runs, Asghar Stanikzai 27, Gulbadin 23 and Javed Ahmadi 19 runs.

Following Friday’s triumph over New South Wales, it was Afghanistan’s second victory against the club. The Afghan team has been in Australia for practice matches ahead of the Worldinfo-icon Cup next year.
