KABUL thumped Iran in their Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Under-16 Elite Cup match in Qatar, an official said on Thursday.
The Afghans are defending their title during the weeklong event that began on October 22 in Doha, Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) spokesman Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Organised by the Qatar Cricket Association (QCA), the 40-overs-a-side event is being contested by under-16 teams from Afghanistan, Hong Kong, Iran, Kuwait and Qatar.
After winning the toss, Iran opted to bat — a decision that backfired. Thanks to fiery spells by main strike Afghan bowlers, the opposition were bundled out for a meager 26 runs in the 16th over of the utterly one-sided encounter.
Yousaf was the pick of Afghan bowlers, capturing six wickets, with Qais grabbing two scalps. The Afghans raced to the target without losing any wicket in the fourth over of the game. Yousaf was declared the Man of the Match.
The matches are being played at the Mesaied Industrial City Ground and the West End Park Stadium. Two games are played daily, the first one beginning at 9 am and the second at 3pm.
