MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Officials of education department said on Saturday that construction work on 150 school buildings were underway in northern Balkh province.

Qais Mehrain, director education department, said that the ongoing year would witness much construction work on school buildings.

In his chat with Pajhwok Afghan News, he said that 10 new school buildings were under construction in the provincial capital Mazar-r-Sharif while the rests 140 were being built in different districts of the province.

Muhammad Rafiq, a student of the Bakhtar High School, said it was among the oldest educational institutions but it still lacked facilities.

The institution is spacious but its building is too old, he said, warning some parts of its buildings were on the verge of collapse. He demanded the government construct a new building for the school.

Qaisa Mehrain, the director of education, said that under the comprehensive plan no school would be without a proper building after three years. Balkh has a total of 400 schools, with 25% without proper buildings.
