ANA soldier among 8 dead in Sar-i-Pul clash

SAR-I-PUL CITY/MAIMANA (Pajhwok): One Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier and eight rebels have been killed in an overnight clash on the outskirts of Sar-i-Pul City, the provincial capital, an official said on Tuesday.

Director Operation Lt. Sayyed Naqibullah Sadaat said the gun battle erupted Monday afternoon and lasted until 10:00 pm, leaving ANA service member, two police personnel and as many insurgents wounded.

Elsewhere, a 22-year-old man succumbed to injuries after he was severely tortured by Talibaninfo-icon in the Balcharagh district of northwestern Faryab province, Col. Mohammad Naeem Andarabi, director of National Directorate of Security (NDSinfo-icon) said.

Mirwis Daudzai, the acting district chief, confirmed the incident. He said Khair Mohammad, the slain person was the resident of Darzab district, who had neither personal enmity nor was a government servant.
