FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): The police chief for northeastern Badakhshan province was wounded in a roadside bombing that killed one policeman, officials said on Sunday.
Badakhshan governor’s spokesman Ahmad Naveed Frotan told Pajhwok Afghan News that provincial police chief Col. Abdul Qadir Sayyad was injured when a roadside bomb hit his vehicle on Saturday evening.
He said one policeman was killed and Sayyad and two other policemen were wounded in the blast.
Sayyad traveled to Tishkan district to assess the security situation there and came under attack on his way back to Faizabad, Frotan added.
Elsewhere, two people were killed when gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire at them in western Farah province, the governor’s spokesman said.
Jawad Afghan added the dead included a transporter, Abdul Ghani. One of the two attackers was also killed during an exchabge of fire with Ghani’s relatives but the second attacker managed to escape.
