HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): A Taliban’s mine-making expert was killed in a blast caused by his own explosives in the Shindand district of western Herat province on Saturday, police said.
Police spokesman Abdul Rauf Ahmadi told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place in the Pusht Shahr area. He said the slain individual wanted to emplace his improvised explosives devices on a highway in the area, when the explosives went off accidently.
He said the man killed was a landmine-making expert and his death would help reduce bomb blasts in Shindand.
The police spokesman also said 18 miscreants had been detained over the past 48 hours during security operations in various parts of the province.
He said the detainees were involved in a number of crimes and security related incidents.
