LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): A suicide attacker blew himself up inside the police headquarters of southern Helmand province, killing one police guard and injuring five others on Saturday.

Police spokesman Maj. Farid Ahmad told Pajhwok Afghan News the attacker wearing police uniform detonated his explosives during a search at the compound’s first gate at around 9am.

One policeman and the attacker were killed and an Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier, a policeman and a cook were wounded in the blast.

Acting police chief Col. Pacha Gul Bakhtyar said the attacker’s aim was to target an administrative meeting inside the police building.
