KABUL Cricket Board (ACB) officials opened a cricket training academy in the Sarobi district of central Kabul province and laid the foundation stone of another academy in eastern Laghman province, an official said on Monday.

ACB Chief Executive Officer Dr. Noor Mohammad Murad, domestic cricket affairs in-charge Nazim Jar Abdul Rahimzai and other officials attended the inauguration ceremony in Sarobi a day earlier, ACB spokesman Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Sarobi district chief Mohammad Gul Sharafat, former provincial council member Mohammad Nasratyar and the district security officials were also in attendance.

Hotak said the ACB provided funds for the academy’s construction over one and a half acre of land.

The structure has facilities like pitches, exclusive training areas, places for players to sit and reside, he said.

ACB CEO Noor Mohammad Murad told the inauguration ceremony that there had been only one cricket academy in Kabul in the past, but now many provinces had the facility.

He said national and regional coaches would train cricket players in all departments of the game at the new academy.

Sarobi district chief Mohammad Gul Sharafat thanked the ACB for its efforts to open the cricket academy in the town.

In Laghman, ACB officials laid the foundation stone of a cricket training academy in Mehtarlam, the provincial capital.

The ceremony was attended by senior ACB officials , Laghman provincial council chief Rafi Mamozai, Senator Qari Mir Hatam Tarakhel and cricket fans.

The ACB spokesman said the academy would be built over 1.5 jirb of land over the next six months with ACB funds.
