ASADABAD/GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): More than 40 Taliban airstrikes and ground operations by the Afghan National Army (ANA), officials said on Wednesday.

Maj. Haroon Yousafzai, ANA spokesman in eastern Kunar province, told Pajhwok Afghan News unmanned drones hit suspected militant hideouts in the Kamdesh district of Nuristan province last night, killing at least 28 militants including foreign fighters.

Nuristan Governor Hafiz Abdul Qayyum confirmed the raid, saying that more than 20 insurgents had been killed. However, he gave no further details of the drone strike.  

In southern Ghazni province, six rebels were killed in an airstrike by NATO-led forces. Giru district chief said ISAF helicopters struck an ammunition depot in Mata Khan area, killing three Turks and a Pakistani.  

Meanwhile, the ANA claimed eliminating eight fighters in the northern Kunduz province. Syed Sarwar Hussaini, police spokesman, said the ongoing operation was launched two days ago in the Gor Tepa area of the provincial capital.
