KABUL (Pajhwok): Ending several months of deep uncertainty and hectic negotiations, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Saturday said the presidential election result would be announced Sunday.
Aziz Bakhtiari, a member of the commission, on Saturday told Pajhwok Afghan News that all preparations for the outcome had been finalised. He was hopeful of differences between the candidates would be resolved by the end of the day.
The prolonged election process has created many economic problems, insecurity and joblessness among the Afghans. All people are waiting for the announcement of the final result.
Both presidential campaigns say the contenders had almost reached an agreement but only minor issues regarding the announcement of the final result remained. The runners closed in on the agreement on Friday night.
Earlier in the day, the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission rejected an objection from the poll panel to its decision on invalidating votes from 118 polling centres.
Also on Saturday, President Hamid Karzai voiced pleasures over the success of talks between the presidential runners. He promised the nation would soon hear good news about the election result.
