KABUL, irrigation and livestock said on Monday.

Mir Amanuddin Haidari, speaking at a meeting arranged by the horticulture development agency in Kabul, said of 125,000 acres gardens in the country, 100 thousand were destroyed during wars.

 He said the horticulture sector would not develop if farmers’ products were not upgraded to international standards. “From field to market their products should get essential services.”

He added eight cold storage facilities were being built which would provide facilities for farmers.

Najibullah Inayat, horticulture development agency head, claimed they had made many achievements in the last 10 years. He said overseas markets should be sought for farm products.

He added apart from technical advice to farmers, his agency also worked in various areas of packing, irrigation, etc. Since 2008 his agency has distributed 5 million seedlings across the country.
