Flood closes Badghis-Herat highway

QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): A flash flood damaged the Badghis-Herat highway in Qala-i-Naw, forcing its closure on Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Badghis provincial council member Abdul Nasir told Pajhwok Afghan News the busy highway had to be closed for traffic at 5am. As of 1pm, the road remained closed.

Resident Mir Ahmad, who wanted to transfer a patient to Herat City, had to return to Qala-i-Naw.  He said all Herat-bound vehicles had to return.

Public Health Director Eng. Maleeha said the issue had been shared with higher provincial and central officials. She ruled out the reopening of the road in a day or two.
