Former HIA commander shot dead in Batikot

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Talibaninfo-icon insurgents shot dead a former Hezb-i-Islamiinfo-icon Afghanistaninfo-icon (HIA) commander in the Batikot district of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Friday.

Haji Ghalib, the district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News HIA former commander Sharif was killed near his house at around 8pm last night. One of the attackers was killed after a son of Sharif opened fire at them, he said.

A resident of the area, Islamuddin, said that Sharif was a former commander of the Gulbadin Hekmatyar-led HIA and was currently serving as the head of a local council. He said Sharif had previously survived a gun attack by unknown assailants few months back.

Taliban’s spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said Sharif was gunned down by a fighter, who lost his life to the attack.
